When It Could Be Worse

Today one of my co-workers had an accident. She has MS and very little (if any) control of one of her legs. That leg got hung on the gas pedal of her car while she was driving-- in reverse. Now, I'm going to stop here and let you know she is ok and no one was hurt. The only damage was to her car (which was quite extensive). She actually landed in a creek which probably saved her from much worse.

It was so scary. It happened right outside a building and many of us saw it out the window. Hearing the words "Call 911" and not knowing what has happened or what is going on is scary. It leaves you speechless, shocked, numb, in disbelief. Your heart races. Your mind jumps to the worst case scenario. You breathe a sigh of relief when you realize it's going to be ok.

And afterwards, you realize all the "what if's." What if she had hit other cars? if the creek hadn't stopped her? hit a person? a building? And, you thank God that you and those close to you have another day. That it wasn't much worse.

I wonder how many times God stops things from being much worse than they are. When he protects us. Keeps us safe. Saves us from harm, illness, heartache, loss. For all those unforeseen scenarios and for God's provision and protection, today I am thankful.
